About Us

As the founders of Cages Plus, we began in 1998 with a clear vision: to create an affordable, durable, safe, and portable batting cage, while delivering exceptional customer service. At the time, there were no options for portable or budget-friendly batting cages on the market, so we designed and introduced the first "netting over the frame" portable batting cage. Since then, our cages have been sold in all 50 states and internationally, including Australia, Canada, Curacao, France, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Qatar, and the Virgin Islands.

Our commitment to maintaining high product standards is matched by our dedication to customer satisfaction. We pride ourselves on being responsive, answering calls and emails promptly, and shipping most orders the same day. As a small business, ensuring our clients are happy is essential to our success.

Who We Are

Robert DeCloss

Owner & CEO

Dr. Robert ("Bob") is a mathematician by profession, having served as a professor of mathematics for 27 years before retiring from academia in 2012. He earned his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. Bob’s passion for baseball grew alongside his son’s, and after becoming frustrated with constantly retrieving balls during batting practice, they began searching for a batting cage. Finding the available options too expensive, Bob initiated research and development that led to the creation of the Cages Plus Batting Cages. He has been running the company since 1998. Now, in retirement, he is able to dedicate more time to the business side of operations, though he humorously admits he’s uncertain whether that’s for better or worse!

Daniel DeCloss

Vice President

Daniel has always been passionate about baseball. From a young age, he was the kind of player you had to pull off the field, and his love for the game continues today as he coaches and teaches kids the fundamentals. The 55-foot Cages Plus batting cage was a key part of Daniel’s success, helping him maintain a batting average of over .360 throughout high school and culminating in a state championship during his senior year. His performance also earned him a college baseball scholarship. Since the company's inception, Daniel has contributed to every aspect of the business and firmly believes that Cages Plus Batting Cages remain the best for practice.

Our Story

It all started with a boy and his bat...

Does this look like your average batting practice?

  1. Take about twenty balls in a bucket or plastic bag.
  2. Drive to a local park or ball field, possibly waiting for availability.
  3. Pitch (and duck on occasion) while your son or daughter hits.
  4. Spend the same amount of time finding the balls as you did hitting them.
  5. Lose some balls, because the balls blend into the environment.
  6. Repeat steps 3–5 until dark or you run out of balls.
  7. Drive home exhausted, saying to yourself, there has to be a better way!

Hello, my name is Bob DeCloss, and this is our story. For several years, my son Daniel and I followed the same routine, but as he grew stronger, it became clear that we needed a better solution. After being hit a few times while pitching to him without protection, I realized it was time for a change. I began researching batting cages on the market, only to find that most were far beyond our budget and designed to be permanent installations. I was looking for something both affordable and portable.

Our Invention

Leveraging my background in mathematics and physics, I developed a completely new design: a batting cage with netting draped over a frame. After using it for a while, my son remarked, “Dad, I bet there are a lot of people who would love to have something like this.” In 1998, we took our idea to the internet, and he was right! Since then, we’ve had an incredible journey, filled with the joy of hearing from countless families who are grateful to have an affordable solution for their own backyard.

What stands out most is the response from our competitors. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we’ve certainly been flattered. Initially, they ignored us, then warned against so-called ‘homemade remedies,’ and now, many have adopted our design.
